The northern Adriatic is full of small islands, deserted bays and hidden spots — most reachable only by boat. Here are our recommendations for unforgettable day trips.
·Getting there: Motorboat only
One of the finest sandy bays in the northern Adriatic, just a short boat ride from Premuda. Knee-deep, crystal-clear water and fine sand almost everywhere — perfect for children and swimmers of all levels. The bay is wide with plenty of anchoring space. Those who fancy a stroll can cross the island on foot in around 20 minutes to reach the small main village. Perfect for a full day at the beach.
·Getting there: Ferry or catamaran
Croatia's underrated gem of a coastal city — Roman forum, medieval old town, the famous Sea Organ and the glowing "Greeting to the Sun" installation on the waterfront. Perfect for a day trip: take the morning ferry over, explore on foot, and head back at midday or in the evening. Check the timetable before you go!

A geological wonder: Šušak is the only island in the Adriatic composed almost entirely of fine yellow sand — deposited by ancient winds, possibly drifting in from the Sahara. The beaches Spiaza and Bok are among the sandiest on the entire coast, with shallow, warm water. With around 150 inhabitants, the island is barely touched by tourism.

Car-free, peaceful and full of character. Holm-oak forests, the round Toreta watchtower — the island's landmark — and quiet sandy coves make Silba one of the most popular day trips. In the 18th century Silba owned one of the largest sailing fleets on the Adriatic.

Gentle and unhurried: shallow lagoons, quiet beaches, vineyards and olive groves. The village has a 16th-century watchtower and the ruins of St Paul's church near Banve bay. Olib lives today on wine, olive oil and cheese.

A small, quiet island with very few inhabitants and a church perched high on the hilltop — the climb is worth it for the view across the entire northern archipelago. Little tourism, a lot of authenticity.

An abandoned island that invites you on a day hike. Cross the island ridge to reach the far shore, where a carefully restored ruin awaits in the middle of the wilderness. No electricity, no running water, no tourists. Just nature and silence.

A trio of islets between Premuda and Silba — for the adventurous. Those willing to scramble up the rocks are rewarded with a breathtaking view over the open sea and surrounding islands. No harbour, no beach — just limestone, spray and horizon.
